DrawingSprites is learning how to draw the 3/4 face |

Certainly a learning phase |

The beginnings of a collage in my 8x8 Dylusions journal |
One of the Patreon groups for Gulfsprite is the DrawingSprites. In January Christy took us through, step by step, on how to draw a face straight on. This month it is drawing the 3/4 face, or slightly turned to the left or right. Christy is using the Andrew Loomis method of drawing. Mr. Loomis was an artist in the 1940's, and his books are still in print today because his methods work. I ordered Drawing the Hands and Head from Amazon. It arrived yesterday, so planning on diving into it later today. With this method you use circles with guidelines, and erase your guides after the face starts to evolve. It is practice. I did the above 3 pages in 30 minutes the other night, and by the time I got to the girl looking up, I was getting the hang of it. Still have a long way to go. But having a system to follow makes this easier.
I have also joined an abstract collage group that is new on Facebook. Some really interesting art is on there which inspired me to cut up some papers. Also, Jane Davies has been doing what she calls kitchen table collages. Using paper cut into 4x4, 6x6, or 8x8 squares, she glues down some random papers, then adds doodles with pens. The above WIP is more Jane inspired than anything else.
The solid red paper is quite thick and has a lot of texture. This came from a bag of scraps I bought at my local Walmart for $2.99. Yes, $2.99. None of the scraps are bigger than 4x4, but the variety and texture is fantastic. Lots of metallic, both in silver and gold. Go now. Shop. Hi to Tracie and Klara. You two just wait until I get to Ohio......
