A free lesson from the Goddesses workshop

Bits and pieces of lessons from the past week combined to make this spread

 Gulfsprite has been posting daily lessons from an old workshop called Obsessions on her Patreon account. One of those lessons was doing a water color background with layers of colors that compliment each other. That started the journal spread above with the black hair and stenciling. Except for the hair, top and gold and white stenciling, this is all water color. 

The Goddesses workshop is available under Christy Sobolewski on YouTube, and is free. I don't remember which Goddess this is, but again, I wanted to experiment with the layering of water colors, and do the downcast face. She is supposedly holding the moon, which is reflecting light. I did use 2 different stencils for the stars and the light particles, with white acrylic paint. There is also some silver water color on the moon and the bands around the neck. White lines are with a white Gel Pen. 

I bought some additional Crayloa markers to play with. One of the dogs favorite treats is a marrow bone that comes in a large, plastic container. I used the top ridge as a guide to cut the container down, washed off the paper label but left the adhesive, because I figured it would help me glue deli prints on the plastic. It did, wonderfully. Because the top rim was a little rough and I can cut myself looking at something like that, I cut strips of a cotton fabric and used Matte Medium to glue that on. So far everything is holding up and staying on the plastic. Who knew?

Opens up the thought processes to convert other plastic that would only end up in a land fill. Try it! Enjoy your day, Linda

I have a blast doing these altered projects. And it feels good to recycle, something we have moved away from in past years. It's nice to find a purpose for an object that, for the most part, would have been discarded.

This is a square, wooden cigar box. I first primed it with a product called Gesso, then painted it black, using craft paint. The green vintage style paper is from the Material Girl line by Cosmo Cricket. The tape measure paper is from the same line. I love where you can purchase one sheet of 12x12 paper, and slice it up for various projects.

I stamped the spool images, sewing machine, dress form, and Little Sewing Co. sign on scraps after cutting the bigger green pieces. Then just cut them out and adhered. With the spools, I wrapped embroidery floss around them first, then placed them on pop up adhesive. The large flower on top was cut out with Tim Holtz's distressed flower die, using a paper from the Thrift Shop line by October Afternoon. One side of the paper is a reproduction of an old sewing pattern, the other side is the black background with white dots. So I just flipped every other flower to get that effect.

We're getting ready to leave for the dog pool party in Plainfield, at the outdoor Splash Island. This is an annual fundraising event. I seriously doubt my dogs will go in the water, but it will be good to be out on such a beautiful afternoon. Enjoy yourselves.

This is a wooden cigar box. I primed it with a product called Gesso, then painted it black. On all four sides, I sponged painted Folk Art Foliage Green paint, 2 or 3 coats, then added die cuts from a Cricut cartridge. The bat, spider web and cat were all sized at 3 inches, the spider at 2 inches, the pumpkin at 1 1/2 inches.
