Paper Mache houses

I finished the special order for a "spring" themed paper mache house. Felt bad because I was not notified this woman wanted more houses by the gallery owner. Hmmmm. It is what it is, but she was very happy with this brightly colored house. I even gave her lace curtains.

Ready to start painting another spread in the Fabulous Faces Class from Ashli Oliver. See if this goes any better. I have erased her nose 5 times. Not looking good, guys.

Is it Spring yet?

Good Morning!

The temperatures aren't saying Spring at all. But we are sick of Christmas crafts (that happens with any season, trust me), and are ready to move on. Our booth will be stocked with chickens, bunnies, and bears as of this Saturday.

This is a new bunny, very prim, wearing overalls of homespun or country cotton, and holding a carrot. He gave me a lot of grief while making it. I understood the directions, but had a difficult time getting the sewing correct. It finally worked out the way the designer intended. I are a beginner, still!

All of the above are made with muslin that was painted and distressed. My favorite is the one with the blue overalls.

A Lazy Saturday

The last few days I've been on the puny side, health-wise. I certainly hope this ends soon. I'm not into pain. But before the puny stage, I was extremely busy.

We found these wooden boxes at Dollar Tree, and decided they made a handy little frame for whatever strikes us. I painted one this pretty garden green, I think the name of the paint is Clover by Americana, and let that inspire me for the garden theme. I like it. So if no one else likes it, I get to keep it. I do have ulterior motives at times... The seed packets within the frame are simply stamped images from a gardening set I picked up somewhere. I found the mini shovel at the Covered Bridge Festival in a booth that was selling a lot of items along this line. The fence has been die cut from heavy paper.

Then a drunk, giant chicken wandered into the house and laid eggs. Looks like it, doesn't it? Those are paper mache, and I first painted 2 coats of craft paint, then antiqued them for the primitive look. They turned out good. Next up: the same thing done to paper mache pears. I really like these, and so does Cathy. So I may have to do more if these three suddenly disappear from the shop and end up on her country cabinet in her family room.

Last is a wreath. In the old days (!!!) we (my husband and I) would sell about 20 wreaths at each craft show we did. He would cut out the wood parts, I painted them and put the wreaths together. I made wreaths for every season, but the most popular were gardening and Christmas. Could not make them fast enough, so I decided to try just this one and see what the reaction will be.

The Store

This is the primitive craft section of Allyscraps, what you see as you enter the store. The paper craft products are in the mid section to the back of the store. Cathy and I both feel there are still holes in the display, but we're working on it.

The green shutters were my Christmas Eve bargain. I found these at an antique/craft type store on old Route 41, south of Attica, IN. I have gone past this place for years, but never stopped. Coming home on Christmas Eve, I noticed it was open and pulled in. Glad that I did, because it turned out to be a treasure trove of items we could use.

I had already picked up several pieces when I noticed these shutters, which are not quite 5 feet in length. I wanted them, but I was about 60 miles from home driving a mid-size Ford. Hmmmmm. So I went up to the two young girls who were at the counter, and told them that I'd buy the shutters if they could help me get them in the car. Dang, it was windy that day. Sunny, bright and cold, and really windy. We had all four doors open on the car, and after a lot of maneuvering and laughing, we made it.

I then drove around town for 3 days with these in the passenger seat of my car before I figured out how to get them out by myself. Yes, I am nuts.
