I really have been busy..

From the top: second lesson from Gulfsprite was drawing a face on each of the solid areas of paint in colored pencil. I used the left over 5 colors of paint to create the last page (metamorphosis) in a different journal.

Collage and watercolor is next. I did not like the watercolor flowers I did, so glued another collage element on top of it. Leaving this page as is.

Next four photos: earlier this year we had a video from Gulfsprite on using magazine pages for collage to create a solid page. I forgot about it. Then she gifted me the journal she had used in that demonstration, and after seeing it in person, I wanted to try it. I cut squares 4x4 inches, then ran a half inch of glue stick on the sides to glue together. This is messy, so I worked on top of my Ranger sheet (the brown one, I don't remember what it is called....). I did enough so it could be folded in half, letting the cover have a tip out. Not sure how well this will last, because I used spots of glue to attach the sheet I made to the cover of this 11x14 Canson Mixed Media journal. I should have used Matte Medium applied to the entire cover. Then I didn't like the inside of the front cover because it had printing all over it, so I made a collage of scrapbook papers on the sewing machine, and attached that with glue. The red Women on Women was cut out from an issue of Vogue. First page of this journal is from late last year.

I get bored drawing the same faces over and over. Monday night I pulled out the light box (these are cheap, $25 or less on Amazon), and pulled 2 model photos from fashion magazines. You can't use them straight out of the magazine due to the images on the other side showing up as well. I copied them in black only on my home printer, then used the copy with the light box. This allows you to trace the main lines, which I like because it gives me placement. Yesterday I sat with the original photos, and did the detail drawings in pencil. The first one I added some color with Neo Color II's crayons. The second one, I added paint only to the box, her eye, and her top, with stenciling on the bottom. My challenge to myself is to learn how to draw different angles to the face, and to draw hands and arms. I have tried this without the crutch of the light box, and immediately get frustrated. So this is my own method to help me learn. I found this very relaxing. Put on a Podcast, and just worked.

Last, I have the best friends. I really do. One of my classmates from high school lives in Illinois, and is a retired teacher and coach. He and his wife have been involved with dog rescues for many years. What he does now is design t-shirts in support of rescues. An artist friend of his then draws what Reg proposes, and they are printed. Reg then pays for the shirts to be produced, as requested, and gives them to fundraisers for local rescue efforts. Reg asked for my address a week ago, and this beautiful pink t-shirt arrived yesterday. Color doesn't show up because it was so cloudy yesterday. I love this! Thank you, Reg and Beckie. Vote. Linda
