Large Dina Wakley journal |
I forgot I owned this large, oversized Dina Wakley journal until I signed up for this class. I had only done about 4 or 5 pages because it is so large, I am not terribly fond of the cotton paper, and I discovered I don't like working on burlap. Yesterday I decided those were all good reasons to work in this book, because disliking the paper/material will make me think of ways to use it. Who knew?
The first spread is opposite the page in motion we did in class. The black spread is cotton paper on the left, burlap to the right. I applied black gesso to both, but put a few pieces of deli paper under the burlap to catch paint. You can obviously paint burlap but it will bleed through not only to the other side, but to the next page in the book. Pulled out an older Dina stencil, and used 2 colors of Martha Stewart paint but did the green first. I used the same make-up sponge to pick up the Pink Streamer paint, so we have some nice mixing going on. That was also used to edge the white cardstock stamped with the figure on the left.
What to do next? If I want to draw or watercolor, I will use a Canson Mixed Media or a Dylusiions journal. Both have smooth paper suitable for that medium. But to just get messy and play with texture and paint, this book will do nicely. If I keep this up I will never complete a single journal....
