Mom! It's nap time! |
Put that phone down! |
That is my maternal grandmother, who died when my mom was 12 |
Part of my mom's family. My mom is second from right. The man is my uncle. |
About two years ago I reconnected with one of my cousins on my mom's side of the family. He is still on the south side of Chicago, has been his entire life. We don't have a lot in common, as he is far, far right wing conservative and completely supports the man who just decided it might be good to inject disinfectant into people.
You can't make this shit up. You just can't.
Anyhoooo, one good thing came from this connection. He sent me about a dozen family photos I had never seen in emails. I saved them to my hard drive, and printed some out just on plain copy paper the other night. My grandmother had 9 children, died around 1924, so I am guessing this was a photo of her in her teens, so say 1895. There was an ornate set up behind her, and I have a photo of her mother in the same location. I always had the impression my mom's family did not have much, but take a look at that outfit. Huh. All of the collage papers are originals. Some from ledgers that my friend Klara gave me, the big piece of ledger as the background came from an antique store in Mooresville, IN.
On the second collage, I did use some Tim Holtz ephemera from one of the various packets. And a torn piece of Monopoly money. On a whim I decided to stitch around in black thread. I enjoy making these, and have a stack of left over pieces of water color paper cut up into 4x4 squares for some small collages. It is also nice to jump from journals to the collages. Keeps the brain cells moving. Stay safe and healthy.
