On this bird, too. |
I had the 3 8x8 gallery sided painted canvases sitting on my desk, leaning against the wall for at least 5 weeks. Yeah, nope, they are done. I used Apple Barrel Pavement on the sides. Not going to try and sell any of this, so it doesn't matter. I will eventually either apply wax to seal them, or varnish.
The first set of birds with circles had been sketched out over the collage, and I had painted a light grey around the outlines. This canvas had been moved around for over a week, so finished it. The circles of color are oil pastels. I actually pulled out an unused supply and used it! So proud of myself. And truthfully, I really like the pops of color from the oil pastels. Will be using them more in Mixed Media. Wonder if they will cause pages to stick together in an art journal? We will find out.
Second set of birds: I used a pencil to draw them out, then used white craft paint to put a light layer around the bird bodies. Lots of texture and accent colors under that, so want it to come through. I knew I wanted the main bodies of each bird to be darker, but when I applied the black paint to the bird on the left it seemed to be too overwhelming. Took a piece of deli paper sitting on the desk, put it down over the wet paint and pressed. When I pulled it up I had the perfect impression of my fingers. How flipping cool is that? So I did it on the other bird. I like it!
I have a dinner with dog park friends tonight, an open house this weekend, but then the season is basically done. Back in creative mode, and enjoying the process. All of the 8x8 canvas panels are now up on a floating shelf in my hallway. They make me smile.
Thanks for stopping by.
Linda
