Reworked wood panel, 11x14 |
Jodi Ohl has a 4 part abstract mini class on Instagram TV for free. It's actually listening to Jodi as she paints. In one part she explains her supplies, tools, and how she uses them. I don't know what clicked in my head the other night, but I sat up in bed and watched those 4 videos on my IPad, and suddenly I could see what I had been doing wrong. Why I wasn't getting the results that I wanted.
I went into the art studio with the intention of pulling out naked, new wood panels and then my eye hit the far wall. I had done a set of 3 in the style of Dori Patrick this past winter. Loved the collage/paint backgrounds, hated my handwriting with the cute sayings. Down they came and the paint started to fly. I found my package of skewers in a drawer and pulled a few out. That is what I am using for the thin lines scratched into the paint in all of the above.
The 11x14 will change again today. I left it alone last night at 8pm on purpose, knowing it was time to step away. This morning I can see I don't like the center. So that will get something today. I have totally lost the fear of covering anything up with paint. Baby wipes will remove it if you immediately don't like it, and I went through a ton of those yesterday. Need to stock up again. And I now understand how Jodi produces so much work. I had 7 abstracts in progress yesterday because you are always waiting for a layer to dry somewhere. For me, it is easier to work in groups of three.
I need a bigger art studio.....
