Huh. Who knew?

She looks really pissed off, doesn't she? 5x5 watercolor journal

5x5 watercolor journal, acrylic,, collage, watercolor on top

pattern paper I had printed on with black paint months ago. Pulling ut old stuff.
I am in the middle of taking online continuing education courses for Silver Sneaker exercise instruction. One of the points that is emphasized over and over is how we are to challenge our class participants mentally. Mental stimulation and exercise are deterrents for dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

So let's apply that to our creative lives. If you work in the same manner, never experimenting, you can and will become stagnant. If you use the same size journal every single time you create, your brain thinks in that format. Huh. It makes perfect sense to me to mix it up. And that is what I've been doing. I currently have 6 unfinished journals scattered around the art studio room. While one is drying, I grab another if I am in the mood to continue working. This little 5x5 from Dina Wakley goes pretty fast, and that is encouraging as well. By the way, the dark colors on the flowers above are Arteza brush pens. That gold blob is bleed through from alcohol inks I splashed on the other side of the page. That is interesting, because this paper is thick. Working on the different types of paper is also a challenge.

The best part, to me, is using up old collage pieces and supplies. And I am enjoying just grabbing collage fodder and running with it. Enjoy yourselves.
