Art journaling saves

Multiple colors are underneath the grey and white

Decided it needed a quote

Acrylic paint and pencil
I am approaching my art journals slightly differently. When I'm in the mood just to move paint around, I do some backgrounds. In the first page, there were bright colors slapped all over the page. I did a wash of white, then used washi tape to attach the figure masks from Donna Downey. I painted a Stone grey from Craft Smart around the masks, but lifted some of it off with a piece of deli paper. Added white splotches, lines, stamping, and then the Tim Holtz saying. Is it great art? Nope. Does it make me want to fill more blank pages? Yes. Yes, it does. That is the point.

The other thing I started is to just draw with a mechanical pencil and see what happens. The flower pot was inspired by the flowers currently sitting on my deck, except I chose the color palette of yellow, orange, and a neon pink. The greens are from several lines of paint. I am slowly weeding out the brands I just don't care for. Dyan Reavley paints are gone, because almost all of them dried up in the jars. I do have a bunch of Dina Wakley paint left, but some of those tubes are also dry. If I have a problem with a paint, it goes in the trash. I will say of the cheaper paints I have purchased, Folk Art and Martha Stewart seem to last the longest, and stay smooth.

This page of flowers sat unpainted in one of the Canson Mixed Media journals for over a week. When in the mood, I return to a page to paint. This is working for me. I am not forcing myself to work on something that does not feel right.. Consequently, more is getting done, with more variety. Huh. Who knew?
