The Heirloom Stamping Show is at the Hendricks County 4H Fairgrounds this weekend. Cathy and I were there yesterday as soon as it opened. It was packed. So let us review the industry.
Card Makers have certainly dominated the paper crafts industry for the past several years. Those that still create scrap books mostly find it necessary to shop online. JoAnne's, Michael's, and Hobby Lobby have reduced their paper supplies substantially. Today I offer a free tip for those 3 mega chains: you are idiots.
The show was packed. Not only did it have more attendees this year than last, this is the most I've seen in many years.(There were also more vendors.) And they were all buying. We stood in line to purchase at every booth where we decided to buy a product.
The show was divided into two different sections within the building. The first was the main shopping floor, where you paid $8 to enter and purchase. The second room was reserved for those who wanted to create. It was a crop. Stay with me here. (Tracie, you can skip this part). Scrap bookers will pack up the essentials (ha ha ha ha ha) in specially designed bags on wheels to bring to a crop and rent a table. Rates vary according to how many hours are available, and if food is provided. Once a scrapbooker enters the crop zone, her family can kiss her good-bye. She has arrived. She is in her personal zone with others who think just like her. But, you say, what if they run out of something while at this crop? Oh, baby, there is a giant store dedicated to stamping, paper, stencils, glue, etc right next door.
We had a great time. I had to prepare for this day with compression hose, arch supports, and my cane. I am old and still recovering. But I made it, was not in the type of pain I had felt before surgery, and so needed the time outside this house.
The dogs were jealous.
