Waste not, want not

If you turn your head sideways, you can see this correctly.

Hand lettering
Over a month ago my privacy fence was installed. I had taken the dogs to the dog park for a few hours, and when we came home there was a stack of left over wood pieces. Most of the pieces were cuts of 2x4 in various short lengths. There were also two 6 foot left over fence  panels, and some splits of those as well. I asked what they would do with the leftovers, and one of the men told me it was going to the landfill.

Uh huh. Nope. I hauled all of it into the garage. No, wait. First I called Cathy and asked if we needed pieces of wood for anything. She said surely we could come up with something and the answer was yes, as long as it stayed in my garage. THEN I carried them into the garage and stacked all of it neatly.

Last week I grabbed 4 of the 2x4 pieces to sand the edges. Some of the wood was still damp to the touch from a light rain that weekend. So I set them on a sheet in the studio to completely dry out in the house. Yesterday I started. Base coat is Americana True Red. I made JOY letter templates with paper, then traced them onto a board. Pulled out the largest stamps I own, which are an old set of foam from Memory Makers. Really good quality. I applied heavy body white paint to those to stamp the MERRY. If you do this, wash your foam stamps immediately. Paint will ruin any stamp if left to dry, rubber included. I then added a second coat of paint to all of the lettering by hand with a brush. Third coat is today.

We will now have signs for porches for every season. Because it's me. And I'm nuts.
