Accordian Art Journals

Watercolors, a little Pitt pen

I hand cut the stencil for the pie chart

Took a break to assess, before the addition of lines and white paint

Added the white to break it up, going for more pattern

More white circles, journaling in the chart

So houses. Everyone else is doing it....

And flowers, because I like them a bunch

She turned out nice, so leaving it alone. Pencil only.

This side is finished.
I came home from a mini vacation ready to get back into the studio. Yeah, boy. Started watching a few old videos of Ashli Oliver on YouTube. Just search for Purplemailbox, and the list of all of her videos will come up. Ashli has an accordian journal made from the 8x8 watercolor paper pad at Hobby Lobby. I had one, but did not have a lot of sheets left, so I tore out some Mixed Media paper from Strathmore in the 5x8 size.  Only because I had it on hand, I used Artist Tape, which is archival and truly a pain to work with. The next one of these I make will be with masking tape. Last step is to alternate folding the sheets at the taped seams, and adhering collage pieces if you want. I wanted. Added to this side are Tim Holtz Ideaology tissue, the dictionary one. There are some old pattern pieces on the reverse.

I have started the reverse side, and made a mess of the first spread. Trying a technique that I knew, I KNEW, could be a disaster, and it was almost. Kind of saved it. I will post that when that side is completed.  Once you start working on these pages, it's kind of hard to stop.  And another fun part is, these can be as long or as short as you want them to be.

I used Liquitex heavy body white paint for the smaller circles/blobs, 2 coats. It really pops out that color. If you want more transparency, Ashli suggests gesso, and I agree. But I wanted it WHITE. Caution: pens will not write over that heavy body white. Whatever is in it, the surface is not friendly to anything else being added.

More to come.
Linda
