Chicago is my birthplace. |
I truly enjoyed making this little book. Plan on starting another one within the next few days. Here is the recap:
The class instructions said for us to arrive with a front and back hard cover off a book approximately 5.5 x 8.5 inches. I had a very old copy of the Elvis biography from the early 1970's. It was in very good condition, so I removed the book and cut the spine off, leaving a few jagged edges. Because the photos in this book were in black and white, I flipped through and grabbed a few. When the page with Elvis was created in class, I decided I didn't like it, but wanted to retain the bottom photo from 1958 of two young women. When I returned to my motel room that night, I saw the Elvis photos. Oh, yeah, done and done.
Seth gave us various ways to distress the covers, and I did that. If you want to take this class, there is a DVD available from North Light Studios online. It is, to my understanding, the same class. Or, you can purchase it from Seth's website
here.
I found yet another smaller dictionary at a store in Mineral Point. A lot of the text pages you see are from that book. We also had a field trip to another classroom where the instructor was selling zip lock bags of ephemera. One of my bags had a map of Illinois, and I knew immediately I was going to use the Chicago portion on a page. Everyone also had flash cards and old Monopoly money in their bags.
The work in this book was done rapidly for two reasons: I wanted to try and get as much done in class for feedback, and during Saturday's collage class I discovered that the faster I worked, the more I liked it. (Hello, Tracie!!!) (a little shout out to our friend, Tracie, in Ohio. She buys art supplies. Lots of them. So now she is going to use them, right? Right?)
Have a safe and relaxing Labor Day Weekend. Hard to believe it is the end of summer.
Linda
