Sarge is the dog that I brought home from a house in northern Wisconsin that had over 40 dogs. They were all cared for, in that they were fed and allowed outside for short periods of time. But he didn't receive any affection, and Shelties are very anxious dogs anyway. We lost him in March, 2011 when someone opened the back yard gate, lured him out, and he ran. He was hit by a car 2 weeks later just a mile from the house. No one could catch him, and obviously he couldn't find his way back to us. Gracie mourned for a long time.

And then I went to Animal Control and adopted Jake.
