A lavender plant at my house in Marshall IL

Dahlias at the Marshall house
Cone flowers
Spring time, kind of. I am so very anxious to get out and do yard work, plant some new perennials, mow the grass. Anything. So I've been looking at photos of old gardens, and trying to decide what I want to put in this year.

The cone flowers are really neat. I like the way they look when they bloom and afterwards as well. I would leave the deadheads up for the birds to feed on. In particular, the finches love the seeds from the cone flowers. I did plant lavender out front last spring, and it was doing well even through the drought, so I hope it has survived the winter.

We are hearing all kinds of birds in the woods when we go for our walks. One of the pathways travels through some heavily planted areas, with birds and squirrels competing for the trees. Sarge, Mr. Timid normally, wants to chase down every single squirrel. Gracie ignores them, preferring to sniff and root around in the foliage. It won't be long we'll be seeing leaves popping out. A most welcome sight.

Have a good day, no matter what it is you accomplish. We are just going to enjoy a nice long walk.
Linda
